    La description de son agression est impressionnante : venant de derrière lui, quelqu’un lui ferme brusquement les yeux pendant qu’un instrument coupant tranche sa gorge, « comme au cours d’une shehita » (abattage rituel). Il s’échappe vers la synagogue pendant que son fils, qui sera légèrement blessé, affronte l’agresseur qui sera ultérieurement immobilisé par des témoins. Il n’a entendu aucun cri, aucune injure, aucune revendication.
