Is it right that men and women should be segregated when Islamic speakers at Universities demand it? The issue has arisen because Universities UK, which represents many newer universities, has issued advice to its members saying it’s up to them but sometimes it could be acceptable. But some women have replied that they fought long and hard to get equal rights to education, and that they should be allowed to sit wherever they wish.
The issue has become mixed with a separate conflict at the London School of Economics (LSE) over students who wore Jesus and Mo T-shirts - showing Jesus and the Prophet Mohammed - and were forced to cover them.
The Today programme’s Justin Webb has visited the LSE to hear the views of students.
