Israël relève l’âge minimum du mariage à 18 ans
9 novembre 2013, par siawi3La Knesset a relevé lundi l’âge minimum du mariage de 17 à 18 ans. Cette nouvelle loi est destinée à combattre les mariages forcés. « Au cours du débat à la Knesset précédant le vote, les députés juifs ultra-orthodoxes ont exprimé leur colère contre ce projet de loi ».

The last sentence is particularly meaningful in terms of the links of solidarity they’re keeping alive against the pressure from their diverse communities. -
Pressure mounts on Sudan to pardon teen bride for killing ’rapist’ husband

The UN Women, UN Population Fund and UN Office of the Special Advisor on Africa on Sunday appealed to President Omar Hassan al-Bashir’s government for clemency for Hussein.

14 May 2018, by siawi3This is a case of child marriage, forced marriage, gang rape, and killing in self-defense. Sudanese law as well as international law both criminalize forced marriage of underage girls. Rights defenders are calling for an annulment of the judgment and a due process, taking into account all the mitigating circumstances that surround the husband death, including human rights abuse, rape, forced marriage, child marriage. They also ask that the state of terror and mental instability in which she must have fallen after the gang rape be considered.

Sudan: How to help Noura in Sudan and similar cases?
17 May 2018, by siawi3Progressive forces exist everywhere in Muslim contexts, just as they do elsewhere. But they are little considered outside their countries – especially in the West which globally tends to ignore them. Noura’s case is a good opportunity to reach out in solidarity to progressive, feminist, humanist, secular forces in our parts of the world. It is an opportunity to create working links that would last even after we save Noura’s life - as I am now convinced we will, collectively.
