“In an unprecedented act of solidarity, Spain has welcomed more than 124,000 Ukrainians fleeing Russia’s invasion and yet we allow potential refugees fleeing other wars to die.. those fleeing the war in Sudan are prevented from seeking asylum in our country in violation of international law. This position can only be described as racist.”

The Media Celebrated Julian Assange and Is Now Too Afraid To Defend Him
3 July, by siawi3What I find most ominous about the Assange case is the willingness of the media to largely ignore it. When WikiLeaks first released its hoard of documents, extracts from them were published in The New York Times, The Guardian, Der Spiegel, Le Monde and El País. None of these publications has campaigned for Assange’s freedom, though if he did anything wrong, then so did they.

African domestic workers in the Middle East: No amount of foreign currency can justify this
4 July, by siawi3Mbura, a human rights activist, had proposed that the government develop a framework that spells out the minimum entry-level salary, weekly and daily rest periods, and signs a special employment contract with Saudi Arabia to protect Kenyan workers. The framework, she said, would also provide Kenyans with paid leave, non-withholding of passports and work permits, free communication and humane treatment.

USA: The Far Right and Far Left Agree on One Thing: Women Don’t Count
4 July, by siawi3Today, a number of academics, uber-progressives, transgender activists, civil liberties organizations and medical organizations are working toward denying women their humanity, reducing them to a mix of body parts and gender stereotypes. The word “women” has become verboten. Previously a commonly understood term for half the world’s population, the word had a specific meaning tied to genetics, biology, history, politics and culture. No longer. In its place are unwieldy terms like “pregnant people,” “menstruators” and “bodies with vaginas.”

UK: Julian Assange Appeals His Extradition To The United States
4 July, by siawi3The International Federation of Journalists has launched a campaign to demand Assange’s release and at the same time express that “punishing him for exposing war crimes represents a threat to all journalists.”
This Friday, multiple activists gathered in mobilization in front of the Home Office headquarters, after touring several points in London, to demand the revocation of the extradition order. -
India: A week in the life of human rights defender Teesta Setalvad
6 July, by siawi3It is now more than a week since Teesta Setalvad, one of India’s most formidable and resilient human rights defenders, was targeted and held captive by a vindictive regime. But as is evident in the burgeoning support for her, both online and on the streets, you may put Teesta Setalvad behind bars, you cannot cage her courage, which is even today inspiring countless others. “It reflects an aggressive abuse of power and law by the State machinery, in grave breach of the rights and freedoms guaranteed to citizens under the Indian Constitution. This turn of events has also raised questions about the Government’s commitments to human rights and Human Rights Defenders (HRDs), not just domestically but also at the global level,” said the WGHR in a statement. HRW has released a statement saying, “The Indian authorities should immediately release the prominent human rights activist Teesta Setalvad, drop all charges against her & stop their relentless attacks against her.”
