The Editor-in-chief of Jumhuriyet daily leveled the criticism at the ruling alongside his colleague Erdam Gol who also decried the verdict. Dundar also accused the highest office of the state of having played a role in the court’s decision. Dundar’s reaction came after he escaped an assassination attempt outside the court. Dundar and Gol, who is Ankara bureau chief of Jumhurieyt daily, were arrested in November 20-14. They were both sentenced to life in prison for revealing state secrets but the ruling was overturned by the Supreme Court. The Turkish government has intensified its crackdown on opponents of President Rejeb Tayyip Erdogan who was the co-plaintiff in the case.
