Isarël: An international consensus - settlements are illegal and harmful

Less than fifteen years ago NGOs were able to observe the negotiations and approach delegations on the floors of the UN conference rooms. In recent years our collaboration has been subjected to increasing restrictions, limiting our capacity to work with Member States to deliver strong Agreed Conclusions that make a real difference to the policy and legal settings that are used to realise women’s human rights.

The panel proposes to explore an accountability framework to hold States and internet intermediaries to respond to online violence against women which is one of the key barriers for women‘s meaningful access to internet and consequently also affect their active participation in social and economic life. Vaguely formulated laws and regulations that prohibit nudity or obscenity could have a significant and chilling effect on critical discussions about sexuality, gender and reproductive health. Discriminatory enforcement of terms of service on social media and other platforms could also disproportionately affect women and other users.

UN: French peacekeeper scandal exposes UN impunity again
