June 19 wasn’t the magical day that ended American slavery once and for all. This is not to say that African Americans, or all Americans, shouldn’t celebrate the well-intentioned holiday to Black freedom just created. But if you’re still clutching to any vestige of the popular myth, consider that well before Lee’s surrender, with the Confederacy clearly losing the war, slaveholders from throughout the South relocated their human property to Texas in advance of Union troops to preserve slavery for as long as they could. Sound familiar? Like the forced marches out of the death camps in 1945? That’s the true history of Juneteenth — along with a message that somehow has eluded the South and their white supremacist inheritors today: ’You lost the damned war. Surrender already’.

Bombing Afghanistan After the Troops are Gone
28 June 2021, by siawi3If the military officials who talk to the press get their way, the U.S. war in Afghanistan will never end. This became execrably clear on June 9, when the New York Times published an article quoting anonymous Pentagon dignitaries informing us that after the U.S. leaves Afghanistan, it may continue to bomb the country, if it doesn’t like how things go.

Civil War in Afghanistan Will Threaten Afghanistan, China and Pakistan
28 June 2021, by siawi3It now seems impossible for the United States to formally remain in Afghanistan. There is simply no political will for the troops to remain in the country, even as the U.S. will keep paramilitary and mercenary forces in Afghanistan. Given the heightened U.S. pressure on China, however, there is plenty of evidence that the U.S. is not unhappy with the possibility of instability that will come to the heart of Asia after the summer of 2021.

Pakistan: Terrorism concerns
30 June 2021, by siawi3Of course, it is valid to ask why the world’s leading military powers were unable to uproot militant groups active in Afghanistan despite spending two decades in that country ostensibly to fight terrorism. However, Pakistan must be ready to confront any refugee crisis, as well as militant activity, emerging out of the post-withdrawal situation in Afghanistan, and terrorist groups must be neutralised before they shed more innocent blood in this country.

Looming Afghan civil war
30 June 2021, by siawi3With the latest military setback, the Afghan government has increased its reliance on regional militias. The growing dependence on the warlords is seen as a sign of the government’s desperation. What is most alarming is the prospect of the disintegration of the Afghan army and the trained soldiers joining different warring factions.
