In February, 24 human rights organizations including the ACLU, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, the Committee to Protect Journalists and Reporters Without Borders wrote a letter to the DOJ, urging it to drop the appeal of the denial of extradition. The U.S. government has never prosecuted a journalist or newspaper for publishing classified information, which constitutes an essential tool of journalism.
